POWER GENERATION DIRECTORATE
1) MACHINIST – 1 POSITION
Location: Central Mechanical Workshop-Power Stations
Reports to: Technologist-Mechanical
Grade: Gp3
Job Purpose:
Performs machining of metal components required in the plant to ensure target availability and reliability of the power plant units.
Qualifications.
-
Grade 12 School Certificate
-
Craft Certificate in Machining, Fitting and Turning, or equivalent
-
Registered member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)
-
Experience At least 2 years’ relevant experience.
Key Attributes
-
Proficient in using lathes, milling machines, and grinders
-
Ability to read technical blueprints and drawings
-
Sound knowledge of workshop safety procedures and preventive maintenance
Principal Accountabilities
-
Carry out machining and profiling of metal parts for the plant.
-
Operate and maintain workshop machines and machine tools.
-
Review drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate machining of parts or components.
-
Select appropriate machine and settings for a given task.
-
Plan proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment.
-
Maintain inventory of completed products or works and workshop machine tools.
-
Carry out periodic tools audits and keep tools and equipment in the machine shop safely
-
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.

Comply to statutory requirements and company safety procedures.
-
Give timely and accurate job feedback to supervisors on tasks performed.
-
Maintain accurate and updated operational statistics.
-
Keep equipment repair history, recording and trend analysis.
-
Report Incidents and accidents.
-
Develop, review and update operation instructions and procedures.
-
Maintain an organized and safe work environment compliant with applicable ZESCO safety rules, technical instructions and SHEQ approved procedures.

Perform all rigging works associated with machine components.
-
Promote peace and harmony at the plant.
-
Perform any other lawful duties assigned by the supervisor.
